The short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. It was published in 1948 in a magazine called The New Yorker. In the beginning of The Lottery there were kids collecting rocks and the families were gathering. It was a sunny clear day on June 27 on the day of the lottery Old man warner said lottery in June corn be heavy soon. So the Black box was carried out to the location to be ready for The Lottery. The Lottery went in two parts, Part one Was About the head of the household drawing out of the black box. If there was a dot on the piece of paper your family members had to draw. Part two was about when the family members drew if one of your families drew the black dot they were stoned and killed. So in the story Bill Hutchinson drew for his family and got the black dot. So bill’s wife testy drew the black dot also and she was stoned and killed. A theme throughout the story is few people from the town think that the lottery is bad and wants to quit. Therefore they have fear for change of tradition because they don’t want to admit that it’s wrong. For example MR. Adams told old man Warner that they were quitting the lottery in other places but old man warner disagrees. People of the town believe that if they ‘d quit the lottery than the people of the town would think that it’s different like Old Man Warner, who had been in the lottery for over 70 yrs. …show more content…

One similarity is how the black box was black in each. If the color of the box was different it could have gave it a different meaning considering black resembled death. Also another similarity is that in both movies testy complained how it wasn't fair and yet it was but it was wrong. If she hadn’t complained she would have had some sort of different character.
