The Lottery was published in a magazine called, The New Yorker, in 1948. The Lottery was written by Shirley Jackson. It is a fictional short story. The story takes place in a village of 300 people. It's a warm, sunny, and a clear June day. June 27 was the day the lottery was held every year, Today just happened to be June 27, lottery day! Flowers were blossoming in the rich green grass. As the people of the village gathered in the town square. The kids were gathering stones. Mr. graves the post master and Mr. Summers, who did all the town activities, prepared the lottery. Mr. Warner came back and said that those towns were full of crazy young people. Than he said “ Lottery in June, crops be heavy soon.” The lottery was ready to go. There were enough pieces of paper in the box for the head of the household to draw. At the end when everyone was done drawing they opened the piece of paper. The person who has a black dot in the middle of the paper won the lottery. The family that won the lottery drawled again. This time everyone in the family picked a card. Whoever got the card with the black dot got stoned to death. In the lottery that took place in this short story, the Hutchinson won the lottery. When all the family drew for the card Tessie, bill's wife got the card with the black dot. Tessie freaked out. She was making excuses and everything she could to persuade them not to stone her to death. Bill told her to shut up.
