When we think about those who serve our country, we particularly think of men. Men have always been looked at as a superior figure, and women have always had to remain under men because of the views of our society. Nowadays, it is allowed that a woman is able to put on that same uniform just like a man can. However, it was not until this past March of 2016, that women are now capable of joining infantry and having the same opportunity to fight front lines. In the story, “Female Warrior’ the unknown author shares an abnormal experience about a female warrior that is a woman cross-dresser who joins the Army to fulfill her father’s death wish. Just like everyone, we want to make our parents proud and happy. The Female Warrior and her father were all they had for each other. Her father was in the military and died serving his country, so she was raised with a different mentality and was prepared for anything that she would ever cross paths with. The story states, “Sir, you will find my daughter and as I have described; say to her, her father died defending the glorious case of liberty” (5). She did not question her father’s wish because she felt like she owed her father that much. She went into battle despite her gender and what was allowed at that time. However you will see in the story that gender does play a role when it comes her being caught and captured. The story states, “It was not fear. For had fear formed a part of my nature, I should never have undertaken what I did” (7). The female warrior hid who she really was so she can go to war.
