In the upcoming summer of 2017, I would like to enroll in the Brown University program of The Grand Tour: Our Solar System Up Close and Personal. Originally, the program’s title caught my attention as I am currently interested in astronomy and physics, but after reading the course description I realized it focused more on astrogeology. While initially I did not find this appealing, after reading the course description I reconsidered as I realized this course did appeal to my interests as I am interested in learning about planets other than my own. In this program I hope to learn about the formation, origin, and history of planets other than our own so as to expand my knowledge of space so that I may better understand the field I want to pursue. …show more content…

This program is interesting to me because I will likely not take Earth Science in high school, so I would like to familiarize myself with said topic since it may help me later down the line. Earth science is a subject that people seldom have time for, and I do not wish to miss out on such an essential subject. Also, learning about such topics as the methane rain on Titan and the tall mountains and deep canyons on Mars will be very interesting as I have never learnt about either of them, so it will be a completely new topic for me to undertake. I want to learn about how geospheres and atmospheres work, but not necessarily in a context specific to Earth like the way we are taught in school. I am excited to learn about different systems, like atmospheric cycles, that exist on other planets and moons. I want to contribute any prior knowledge I may have, however little, to my groups and classmates when working on projects and answering
