Bruce Jun Fan Lee was the world’s best martial artist. He was also an actor, philosopher, and filmmaker. Bruce Lee has had a big influence on the world, even until today. Bruce Lee was born on November 27, 1940, in the hour and year of the dragon, between 6 and 8 a.m., in Chinatown, San Francisco, California. He was the fourth child of Grace Ho and Lee Hoi Chuen. Lee Hoi Chuen was a comedian in the Chinese opera and an actor in Cantonese films. Bruce had an older brother, Peter, a younger brother, Robert, and two older sisters, Phoebe and Agnes. Bruce had two nicknames: “Mo Si Ting” which means “never sits still” and “Sai Fon” which means “little peacock”.

This was when Bruce and his friends retaliated by returning the taunts and sometimes getting into fights. This environment set the background for Bruce to begin his study of martial arts. At the age of 13, Bruce was introduced to Master Yip Man, who taught Bruce kung fu for many years. Bruce was confident and strong after taking up kung fu. He not only was good at martial arts, but he was also a great dancer and in 1958 he won the Hong Kong Cha Cha Championship. He was also a child actor, and by the time he was eighteen, he appeared in twenty movies. Although Bruce had not formally graduated from high school, his family decided that it was time for him to return to the U.S. and find his future there. In April 1959, Lee moved back to his place of birth to live with family friends outside Seattle, Washington, initially taking up work as a dance instructor. Lee finished high school in Edison Technical School in Washington, and subsequently enrolled as a philosophy major at the University of Washington. He was offered a prescription painkiller called Equagesic. After taking the pill, he laid down and went into a coma. He was unable to be woken up. The reason was that Bruce had an allergic reaction to an ingredient in the pain medication that caused a swelling of the fluid on the brain, resulting in a coma and death. He died at the age of 32. His is buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Seattle Washington.

Bruce Lee had won many awards and achieved a lot through his life. Bruce Lee was named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. In April 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Founders Award at The Asian Awards. A Bruce Lee statue was unveiled in Los Angeles' Chinatown on June 15, 2013. Bruce Lee was voted as the Greatest Movie Fighter Ever in 2014 by the Houston Boxing Hall Of Fame.
