The Fascinating Life of Bruce Lee A famous martial artist once said, “Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it” (“Bruce Lee Quotes”). Lee Jun Fan, otherwise known as Bruce Lee, was born on November 27, 1940, in San Francisco, California (“Bruce Lee”). He grew up in Hong Kong until the age of 18 where he moved back to the United States to start a new life and to follow his dreams. He was known for his martial arts and line of work in the movie business. He became a successful screenwriter, director, actor and martial artist. Bruce Lee’s life was truly extraordinary because of his different motivations, choices, and outcomes. First, Bruce Lee had many motivations which helped shaped his life. Early in his teens, he was introduced to a master Wing Chun martial artist, Yip Man who would help influence young Bruce to become the future martial artist that he is. Yip Man became his mentor to help not only in fighting but also in self-confidence. Another experience in his life which motivated him was when he moved back to the US to pursue his career in martial arts instead of acting (“Biography”). After opening his martial arts school, he married one of his students, Linda Emery who was freshmen in college during the time. During their marriage, they had two children together, Brandon and Shannon (Rousseau, R). In 1965, Bruce decided to begin his own technique of martial arts known as Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do translates to the “Way of the Intercepting Fist” (“Jeet Kune Do”). In 1966, he took the role of one of main characters of the television series of “The Green Hornet” as Kato.
