Caesar was dutifully wronged by conspirators. Caesar’s death was not beneficial for Rome but for the conspirators in taking power into their own hands. They themselves claimed to be honorable men. Marcus Brutus, Caius Cassius, Servilius Casca, Lucius Cornelius Cinna, Decius Brutus, Caius Ligarius, Metallius Cimber, and Gaius Trebonius took matters into their own hands by stabbing Caesar 23 times, but they themselves claim to be honorable men. What have they done for Rome, but kill it’s greatest leader?
I had been so lucky to attend the trial of Brutus, our senator who rebelled in Caesar and killed him. I have never been upon such a noble man. Who would have ever thought that me, a poor baker, should be allowed the chance to sit with the senate and give such an important decision. Never has such a thing happened in our great city, and there must be consequence for what happened to our great general, Caesar.
The Romans and Their Leaders The Romans were an ancient people that occupied Italy and the surrounding area around the Mediterranean Sea. Chronologically, the Romans were governed by a monarchy, republic, and finally an empire. During the fall of the Republic and the rise of the empire, the citizens that rose to power in Rome all possessed the same characteristic. Two men that held power during this time, Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus(Octavian), possessed determination which allowed for them to be great military leaders. Julius Caesar was a marvelous general who conquered many nations during his reign as both consul and emperor, and he greatly expanded Rome’s territory.
Julius Caesar was born in Rome around 100 B.C. When he was a child his family was extremely poor. At the age of sixteen Caesar’s father died but Caesar remained close to his mother. After his father’s death, Caesar sided with the nobility. Caesar met a noble named Cornelia and got married. Sulla, the Roman dictator didn’t approve of his marriage.
Many factors are considered when discussing the longevity and effectiveness that contributed to the Roman Republic and later Empire. Some of Rome's successes include the laws of the twelve tables, strong leaders, and the benefits Roman citizens had to live a good life. These all contribute to the effectiveness of Rome because without living by rules, having a healthy way of life, or having good leaders to follow, any kind of government would collapse. Rome developed through many years of innovative ideas and leaders that influenced its success. Focusing on laws, strong leaders, and good living can help one understand that these are some of the reasons that impacted the Roman Republic and later Empire.
Dr. Ng, Thank you. You are right that HIST531, the course of the Greek Civilization, would be helpful to take this course, HIST532, that is the Roman Republic and Empire. As seen in the name of the course, it says firstly republic and then empire. It is very fascinating and shows that a regime that is republic turned into a tyranny and it took time, and spent many significant people. Cicero, Caesar, Brutus, and many others were each a charming character in the Roman time.
Opinions have great impacts on different things in many ways. For centuries people have had different opinions about everything, whether they like it or if they don’t like it. For example the assassination of Caesar, who was killed by Brutus who was supposed to be his friend. Many people didn’t know if they should think of Brutus as a patriot or as a betrayer. In most opinions people thought he was a patriot, but Brutus was later on killed because he killed Caesar.
The Roman republic was not a great time period to live in with a mercurial political climate with an innumerable amount of dictators, as well as having to deal with disease and harsh laws. The political climate in the 100 B.C. era was very erratic which led to the rise of dictators such as Lucius Sulla and Julius Caesar by illegitimate means. They were helped to come to power by a weak republic, very aristocratic hierarchy and bloodshed, and weak minded people. These gave dictators like Caesar and Sulla the chance to come to power, exhort new laws, and therefore dictate the people of Ancient Rome. The days of the early Roman Republic were uncertain and chaotic due to the new form of government they had to create and that no civilization
Keep Power or Kill If you believed that the only way to save your state was to kill one of your friends, would you? The character Brutus killed one of his friends in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar(JC) by William Shakespeare. Some people believe that he is a villain and only killed Caesar to keep his own power in the government. However many people think that he killed Julius Caesar to help prevent Rome from becoming dictatorship.
/ I would not, Cassius, yet I love him well.” (1.2.85-86, 89). Brutus explains his fears that Caesar may love power more than Rome. Brutus loves Caesar, but would not allow him to rise to power and then turn his back on the people of Rome. What Brutus has said really goes to further prove how honorable
The people of Rome along with the conspirators convinced him to kill his former friend, Caesar. His last words before killing Caesar were “not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” (III.II.19-24) This shows that he cared more about the society and people of Rome, than his friend. It also shows how they could influence him to turn against his friend.
This semester we read in class the story of Julius Caesar , and the life in Rome, and as usually I have to write from my understanding the story of Julius Caesar and the people there at the city. This story it was really tragic , many people wanted to a great king at their city. When you being a roman citizen it is very important to them because even the poor people they are poor to themselves , for example when you are from a country and you are proud that you are born in this country, the same thing the Roman citizens feel about it if you are poor or rich everyone is the same. William Shakespeare is the one who wrote the tragic story of Julius Caesar . Shakespeare was trying to explain us they story of Julius Caesar that everyone
Lucius Junius Brutus was an ancestor to Brutus and Brutus doesn't want to let down his ancestor by letting Caesar destroy the Republic. Everybody knows people don't want to let down their ancestors even if they're dead. Brutus is a very loyal person and knows he has to be loyal to his family's name by joining the conspiracy to kill Caesar. The letters that Cassius forged convince Brutus to join the conspiracy.
