Throughout Julius Caesar by Shakespeare, a man named Marcus Julius Brutus makes controversial decisions that both angers and swoons the nation of Rome. The people who are angered see Brutus as selfish, unnecessary, and overall dishonorable. Although Brutus seem disgraceful to some, his honorable characteristics is shown when he cares for his friends, is selfless around others, and acts morally responsible when under pressure Brutus decides to join a conspiracy to kill his best friend in order to get honor. When I first realized this, it seemed like the most dishonorable thing to do.
Items we carry with us often reflect upon our character, whether it’s a pencil for good luck because you’re superstitious or a even bracelet given to you from a loved one. Items that can appropriately symbolize Brutus include; a (two-sided) coin, a knife, a black hooded cloak, and a Roman flag. First, a coin to represent Brutus siding both with Caesar as his best friend and with the Conspiracy behind Caesar’s back. Second, a knife to represent Brutus backstabbing Caesar both literally and figuratively. Third, a black hooded cloak to represent Brutus’ secret allegiance with the Conspiracy, plotting to assassinate Caesar at the dismay of others, including Caesar.
In Act 3 Scene 2 Brutus said during his speech, “If that friend then demands to know why Brutus turned against Caesar, this is my answer: Not because I cared for Caesar less, but because I cared for Rome more”. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, honorable is defined as “deserving of respect or high regard.” In deciding whether someone is a good person, one must look at the characteristic and actions of that person. In Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Brutus is portrayed as an dishonorable man because he was disloyal to his friend and he was easily persuaded by other people. Loyalty in a friendship is very important and sadly that is something Brutus does not have. For instance, he might have been loyal to his country but, that in not an excuse to kill someone, Brutes claims, “If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (III.ii.54)
Keep Power or Kill If you believed that the only way to save your state was to kill one of your friends, would you? The character Brutus killed one of his friends in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar(JC) by William Shakespeare. Some people believe that he is a villain and only killed Caesar to keep his own power in the government. What does it mean to be honorable? It means bringing or worthy of honor and That is one thing Brutus is known for and the conspirators know this. Even though Brutus himself would later take part in killing his friend Julius Caesar, he does not do it out of jealous, envy, greed, or just pure hatred. But to me the fact the he helps kill his friend Julius Caesar is dishonorable, not in the sense that killing is wrong but in a way that it makes Brutus looks honor hungry.

Although most characters in William Shakespeare's tragedy Julius Caesar are seen as noble and trustworthy, many use manipulative tactics to carry out their desired plans and ideas. To begin with, Cassius uses manipulation when trying to get Brutus on the side of the conspirators, in an attempt to eradicate Caesar. Trying to cure Brutus of his internal conflict, Cassius makes known that he has heard many of the noblest Romans “speaking of Brutus,” complaining of the tyranny of today's government (Shakespeare 1.2.62).

He presumes that Caesar will become a tyrant. As friends Brutus doesn 't want him being king because he holds his honor more than his friends, and to him friendship is just priority. This is a strange attitude to have especially against your best friend whom you 're supposed to be happy and excited for their accomplishments. Another statement from Brutus in Act 1 is “For let the the gods so speed me as I love The name of honor more than I fear death” (I.ii.94-95). In this quote Brutus explains part of his logic/reasoning for killing Caesar.
