Summary of Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis Bud, Not Buddy is a tender story about an orphaned African American living in Flint, Michigan, during the Great Depression. The main character, Bud, decides to try and find his father. The only clue his mother left him was several flyers about a band in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He gets a ride to Grand Rapids, and finds Herman E. Calloway, the man that he believes is his father. He does not get the reception he imagines, and Herman does not believe that Bud is his son.

Founding Brothers In this book there are many interesting stories and lots to learn. Although the first chapter to really capture my interest would have to be Chapter 2, ‘The Dinner”. It discusses the dinner which Thomas Jefferson held to decide the issues of the early nation 's deficit and the location of its new capital. This event would later become known as the Compromise of 1790. During the summer of 1790, Hamilton said that his financial plan for the nation had reached a stalemate, because Southern politicians opposed the proposed assumption of state debt by the federal government.
In chapter 13 of the Bully Boys FitzGibbon and Tommy went to search for Tommy’s dad. They went to where Tommy’s dad’s militia was supposed to be. Once they got there they didn’t find anyone.
In chapter 13 of 2nd rule from, Bud, Not buddy. Bud brings up rule 63 for him to thrive. Bud repeals the rule number 63 that “These guys really thought I was dumb I said, “yes, sir but is not it just like my luck to come clean across the state to find my daddy and he turns out to be old coot?” I slapped my hand over mouth, I knew better than saying something like this out loud but it just tell out of my mouth.”
Victor Rios begins chapter six by describing the way the Latino boys he studied used masculinity as a rehabilitative tool. He describes how the boys are constantly “questioning” each other’s manhood as a way of proving their own masculinity. “The boys’ social relations with one another and with community members were saturated with expressions and discourses of manhood” (pg.125). Rios continues to describe the affects criminalization and its gendered practices has influenced these young boy’s mentality of what it means to be masculine. In chapter six, the author explains that although the boys had easy access to weapons, they rarely used them because of their clear understanding the consequences associated with such violence.
“Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren’t so different. We saw the same sunset” (41). When Ponyboy thought of this quote in the novel The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, he was relating the two worlds of the greasers and the Socs. Ponyboy Curtis is the protagonist of the novel. He is split between the personalities of the greasers and of the Socs.
Danielle L. McGuire’s At the Dark End of the Street, “an important, original contribution to civil rights historiography”, discusses the topic of rape and sexual assault towards African American women, and how this played a major role in causing the civil rights movement (Dailey 491). Chapter by chapter, another person's story is told, from the rape of Recy Taylor to the court case of Joan Little, while including the significance of Rosa Parks and various organizations in fighting for the victims of unjust brutality. The sole purpose of creating this novel was to discuss a topic no other historian has discussed before, because according to McGuire they have all been skipping over a topic that would change the view of the civil rights movement.
The book I have chosen to review is Boy 21, a fictional read that is written by Matthew Quick. Quick is a New York Times best-selling author debuting in novels such as The Silver Linings Playbook and Love May Fail. To best describe this book, it is a captivating read that is comforting for the mind, as it canvasses the raw and unflinching life of a high school senior who displays love for basketball and life relationships. Furthermore, set in a troubled Belmont city of Philadelphia, Quick incorporates the presence of mobs and violence which is captivating towards the reader and audience. I was intrigued about how the novel was written through Finley the main protagonist, which was Quick’s childhood perspective of life in Philadelphia and his passion towards basketball.
In the bully a realistic fiction novel by Paul Langan, a high school student named Darrell Mercer that had recently moved from Philadelphia to California. In Philadelphia he had a friend named Mark he had fought all of his fights because Darrell was small and skinny kid. Then his mom found a better job in California. After they settled Darrell first day at school was really bad and he meet a bully that made his day really bad that he wish that he can move back. Langan used setting, characters, and plot to develop the theme of this novel.
In ”Shame” Dick Gregory discusses the difficulty he was having in school when he was a teeenager just because he was poor kid who didn’t have much and he didn’t get the same value as the other kids in the classroom. First, Gregory mention he was seven years old that is when he got is first lesson in school and use to have a crush on a girl name Helene Tucker he would do anything just for that girl. During his teenage years, when the water get frozen at his house he would use shopped ice to watch his clothes so that he could keep himself clean for her and sometime he get sick from it because he put them on meanwhile it still wet. Finally, It took him twenty-nine years to forget about her crush and that is when he get married and making money so, that show me he was still being hurt from his past and everything that he do was connected with Helene Tucker. In this essay I will talk about Gregory past he was he was seven years old and why he took him twenty- nine years to forget about this girl.
Accomplice In Accomplice by Eireann Corrigan Chloe and Finn fake the disappearance of Chole by hiding her in Finn’s grandma 's basement. They fake the disappearance so they will have something to put on their college applications. The theme of this story is the truth will always come out. No matter how hard you try to hide it, right when you think everything is over the truth will come out.
This quarter I read the realistic fiction book, The Batboy by Mike Lupica. This book is a story about a 14 year old boy named Brian Dudley. Son of a former pitcher and an avid baseball fan, Brian gets his dream summer job: the bat boy for his favorite team the Detroit Tigers. When it seems like his summer cannot get any better, his all-time favorite player Hank Bishop is signed to the team. At the beginning, Hank is cold and yells at Brian a lot, but in the end they become friends.
I should follow directions the first time they are given because if I don’t I will have to suffer the consequences like writing this essay over again because I tried to plagiarize the first time. By the way thank you for giving me another chance to write this essay and make a grade because I don’t deserve it. I 've learn that following directions is the easiest way not to get in trouble. If you just follow directions then you won 't have any problems. Directions and rules are made to keep us safe, although you might not like them you have to follow them to become successful.
