Abstract
Introduction
In 1981, two friends from New York, Jim Disbrow and Scott Lowery, founded Buffalo Wild Wings by re-creating their favorite New York style chicken wings. They opened up the first restaurant near The Ohio State University campus in Columbus, Ohio. At the time, the restaurant is known as “Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck”. Within the next decade, the two entrepreneurs expanded their restaurant chain to thirty-five restaurants. Buffalo Wild Wings states their mission statement as: “Our mission is to WOW people every day.” In addition to is mission statement, Buffalo Wild Wings also added four how-to strategies which help guide employees’ decisions, priorities and behavior each day. All four how-to strategies can be summed up into one word “WOW”. Buffalo Wild Wings believes that it can “WOW” customers by providing outstanding customers services. In 2011, the price of chicken were “historically low”, however, in 2012 it was “historically high” (World Wide Wings). At the beginning of 2013, Buffalo Wild Wings paid a record $2.10 per pound of chicken wings. Additionally, it is estimated that the company also paid approximately thirty percent more due to the demand for larger chicken wings (Restaurant Finance).
