Horses will react by rearing up or running away from the distraction. The rider can be thrown from the horse and receive serious injuries. There is also substantial ways to protect the horse. The saddle pad protects the horse from the saddle. It keeps the saddle from putting too much pressure on the horse’s back. For events that require a horse to move fast the rider will put boots around the bottom parts of their horses legs to keep the horses muscles tight so they do not pull anything or kick themselves in their legs when they are moving. There is also after care that has to be done to keep the horse in good condition. We now have bullfighters and pickup men that help protect the riders in the judged events. The bullfighters job is to distract the bull long enough for the bull rider to get out of the arena. The bullfighters job is very dangerous, he deliberately puts himself between a two thousand pound animal to protect a two hundred pound man. Bull riders rely on these men because they could be what stands between them and death. When a bull rider gets caught up in his rope the bullfighters are the men that step up and try to get the rider's hand loose.
