Recommended: Sociological imagination of bullying

The essay “Bullying as True Drama” was written to help adults better understand how teenagers address bullying and how they may be uncomfortable to openly communicate about the issue when it is happening to them. It also explains how the lack of awareness that adults have in the language the used by teens prevents them from being successful in the better understanding why the word drama is used to describe bullying.
The first response I had to the essay is the point of teenagers using the word drama when they are describing bullying. This statement resonates with me in the sense of having classmates and friends use phrases and words to downplay something that was actually hurtful to them. In the short story “Eleven” the author, Sandra Cisneros utilizes several different literacy devices to bring to life the character of Rachel. The author’s decision to write from Rachel’s viewpoint greatly affected how realistic the characterization felt.
