The story takes place in a suburb of Manhattan, North River Heights in the year if 2012, but all of they story’s events take place at Beecher Preparatory school. Auggie Pullman is a ten-year-old boy whom has a horrific face structure. Due to his “special” appearance, he has no friends, is bullied, and gets a terrible reaction from others when they see him. Auggie has long bangs that cover up his eyes so that he can block out the things he doesn’t want to see. Because of all Auggie has went through, he developed a habit of mumbling and eye contact. Julian causes a lot of trouble. Julian is what some people would call a “classic bully”. By that I mean, he acts one way around teachers, he has an entourage, and is feared by most people. Julian is so wrapped up in his popularity that he would do anything to stay at the top. Usually characters like him change at the end of the book, but Julian doesn’t. …show more content…

Unfortunately they bump into a group of older kids looking for trouble, and as soon as they get a look at Auggie, they start flipping out. In full bully mode, the kids block Jack and August from leaving as they argue about whether Auggie is more Gollum, orc, or Alien. It gets worse one of the kids throws a firecracker at Jack and Auggie. Then, Eddie shoves Jack hard and the fight begins. Towards the end everyone hears about what happened to Auggie in the woods at camp. The fight in the woods is not only a big part of the story, but a big part of Auggie’s life.
