On Monday, February 29, 2016, I interviewed Dr. K. Wallace, District Administrator for Jefferson County Public School District. The interview was on the topic of ethical fairness in education. Dr. Wallace discussed the issue of bullying in public education. He indicated that bullying is becoming an increasing problem for educators. According to Dr. Ross, administrators must strike a balance in respecting the rights of students and eradicating acts of bullying.
Dr. Wallace said that children learn valuable lessons in school that they will apply in the classroom setting as well as in different aspects of life. These lessons are usually learned through interactions with their instructors and classmates. However, certain experiences and lessons such as bullying can leave a negative effect on students and can have an impact on how they view education and life. If a student is found guilty of bullying, he or she may be expelled or placed in alternative school. The school district notes that harassment and bullying of students and employees are against federal, state and local policy, and are not tolerated by the Jefferson County School Board. The Jefferson County School Board is committed to providing all students with a safe and civil school environment in which all members of the school community are treated with dignity and respect.
Bullying is s major concern that must be addressed. I believe that districts should take a comprehensive approach to bullying. There should be collaboration between school administrators, teachers, parents and students to tackle bullying. In addition, school administrators should encourage victims and student witnesses to report bullying. Research also suggests that providing supervision in hallways and other areas can help to reduce bullying on and off campus. School leaders must always act on bullying reports and keep proper
