On a nice sunny day, you and your wife were taking a nice stroll along the Everglades. When you both were walking and talking peacefully, not trying to disrupt the creatures around you, you both hear a loud rustling noise coming from the weeds to your left. You and your wife both turn your head and notice a long, brown and menacing looking snake slithering towards you. You have never seen this snake before. When you arrive back home, you decide to look up species of snakes in the Everglades. “Wow” you say. I saw a Burmese Python. No wonder I have never seen this snake before. It comes from China! They have recently arrived in the Everglades, by us! The presence of Burmese pythons is affecting the Everglades. First, Burmese Pythons are negatively affecting the species that are indigenous to the Everglades. “With no natural predators, these eating machines appear to be wiping out huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, bobcats, as well as many bird species” (Source 2). “The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commision, host of the Challenge, welcomes people from all parts of the country to participate” (Source 3). This shows that every U.S citizen is welcome. This will obviously attract lots of tourists. “Open to the public from Jan. 12 until Feb. 10, the challenge is to hunt and kill Burmese pythons, with a grand prize of $1,500 awarded to the hunter who kills the most pythons, and another $1,000 to the hunter who bags the longest one” (Source 2). This shows that the public can participate, which will bring lots of people. Also, more people will more likely come, because a large sum of money is involved.
