When you hear the word Burnout it makes you think of many things when it comes to working. You began to ask yourself “Do I need a break or its times for a change of job?” I know personally I try to change my job or it’s location at least every 2 years. Around that second year I start to feel that burnout in which I begin to feel overwhelmed and not happy with my job. In this paper I am going to explain the difference between Burnout and Compassion, what self-care can be done and how it will help with these issues. Burnout is a term that has been used since the early 1980s describe the physical and emotional exhaustion that workers can experience when they have low job satisfaction and feels powerless and overwhelmed at work (tend academy, 2016). Burnout is a syndrome, which occurs due to prolonged emotional strain of dealing extensively with other human beings, particularly in helper and recipient relationships (counseling connection, 2016). This can happen with any profession but there is an increase in this problem with individuals that work in the nursing, teaching and counseling fields. I would make a list of things that I know will cause me to feel stressed, anxious, worried, frustrated and helpless (Bourg Carter, S, 2011.) I would make that list a living document in which I would continue to add to it as time progress. I would not take on too many things at one time and learn how to balance my personal life and work. Take a break from work every couple of months with my family just to get my mind off work and put that focus on them. Take home little to no work will help me leave work at work.
