Burt’s Bees is a quickly recognizable company with a very positive corporate social responsibility profile. What most people know about Burt’s Bees through its products that you can find at any drug store is that it is made solely, (or for the most part) from raw and organic materials. Its most popular seller, the lip balm, is made from bee’s wax and other ingredients that are found in nature, rather than harsh chemicals. This is an important thought to consumers because the general idea is that something that comes purely from nature must be good and better for you as opposed to the competition that uses chemicals and artificial flavoring and coloring. The recycled content shows responsibility to the environment because they are not creating more waste, but rather creating something from waste that already existed. In fact, Burt’s Bees has a company profile that states all their efforts to be a socially responsible company. In fact, they are proud to say that they have sent no amount of waste to landfills for the past 3 years in a row. They also state their future goals, which include reducing the amount of water used in creating their products, giving back to communities in order to encourage giving back to the environment, and to reduce the amount of energy used in order to reduce the amount of carbon emissions into the environment. All of these efforts are important because they create an image of responsibility and natural. Consumers place value, now more than ever, in using products that contain natural ingredients rather than chemicals. Although Google began simply as a search engine, it was has quickly taken up a role of a caring company that gives back to its community using its resources and advanced technology. Google currently has programs in China in order to help its children become self-empowered and aware of social issues. It has also donated over 7 million dollars to different towns in China that were recently hit by a massive earthquake. They also provided free advertising in order to raise money for earthquake relief from people all over the world. The company also provides grants to different charities or causes that are in need of money. So far, it has given grants to help fight HIV, teach children in poverty how to read, and to support children with life threatening illnesses using art, music, and athletics programs. Aside from a small corporate social responsibility report on their website, they also have a google.org website that showcases the different causes that they are supporting. They have currently invested money in technology that could provide access to clean water, put a stop to human trafficking, and even to reduce worldwide poverty. I believe that Google’s efforts have placed Google in a high place in people’s minds.
