I am applying for the Research Analyst position at Business Insider in New York City, an opening I learned of through LinkedIn’s explore page. I am applying because I am drawn to Business Insider’s storied success in the data-driven business news space, and specifically with its application of innovative research to offer their users a competitive, meaningful edge.
As I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in economics and philosophy at Pace University, I believe my divergent studies and experience offer a unique, applicable perspective towards data analysis and research. Economics helps me analyze and interpret data, and provides the tools to produce pragmatic solutions. For my economic thesis, I analyzed The Effect Terrorism and Refugee Populations have on Western European Tourism Revenue, and it was because of the skills I learned in my economics courses that I could grasp previous literature, choose acute variables for my equations, and interpret my results. Philosophy on the other hand gives me the logical framework to deconstruct problems where data is lacking, and the ability to make persuasive arguments in a way that is transferrable to any field. Additionally, it was with the skills I learned in Philosophy that I was truly able to offer an objective, persuasive conclusion and recommendation based off the results my equations provided.

Based on previous literature and a lowering of property tax revenue in New York, we hypothesized that highway accidents have increased due to the property tax cap shrinking town budgets. As our work is still in progress, I look forward to seeing whether our hypothesis is correct, or
