It all began with an argument between Larry Page and Sergey Brin in the summer of 1995. Larry thought Sergey was arrogant, while Sergey thought Larry was obnoxious (“The Birth of Google”). Little did they know that their common obsession with back links would change the internet forever. With some research and a lot of trial and error, the two college students from Stanford University created the most-used search engine known in the world today - Google. “It’s really the people that make Google the kind of company it is (“Company – Google”). How the business is run and the plan they have is a big reason why they are successful. Google focuses on hiring people who are both smart and determined. Google also favors ability over experience. The business is run by people who truly wish the best for their users. Many “Googlers ” share common goals and visions for the company, but that doesn't stop them from going above and beyond. The company focuses on all walks of life, and its employees speak several different languages. The company wants to focus on the global audience that they serve. Google also strives to maintain the open culture often associated with startups, in which everyone is a hands-on contributor and feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions (“Company – Google”). This helps keep the business running smoothly while having the best available ideas possible and out on the table. Google employees even get the opportunity to ask questions directly to the executives in the company. They can voice their opinion on company issues and their feelings about certain things. Google is a bicyclist paradise. The main Googleplex campus is located in Mountain View, California ("10 Things I Didn’t Know About Google”). It is a very large area that is surrounded by several buildings that the company uses. The most convenient way to get around the Googleplex is by pedaling ("10 Things I Didn’t Know About Google”). That’s right, Google owns more than a thousand one-speed one speed bikes. The bikes even have the Google logo painted on to its frame. Several Googler’s and visitors use these bikes to get to appointments. Another unique things about Google is called TGIF . It is now a very important part of the companies’ culture.
