Personal Statement 1) As an individual I myself had trouble finding the inner leader I have within. Towards the end of my eighth grade year I was given the opportunity to learn about a program called C5LA. After going through the process of the application I was selected for an interview, and ended with a spot in the program. This program focuses on helping students become leaders. This is where I learned everything I know, as well as where I’ve experienced different leadership roles. Last summer we went to wyoming for a backpacking trip, for a week. My favorite subject is music. To me the definition of music is not a source of entertainment, but a source of emotional expression. Most songs written have a message or some emotional attachment to it. Whether it be a love song, a song about friends, a song about parties, it’s all a source of expression. To me music is a beautiful way to emotionally connect with an individual. It’s a way of escaping reality when one is at their worst. I enjoy listening to any genre because there’s always a story to tell. I have been in the marching band as well as concert band for two years. Band has always been my absolute favorite subject. To me the sound of a variety of instruments all playing at different times and tempos to create the perfect ensemble is breathtaking. I have a very emotional attachment to the sound of music in which I can’t explain why. The sound of instruments playing always has a strong impact with me. When I play, all my worries suddenly disappear. Being a part of the ensemble makes me feel important and safe at the sound of what we play. At times I have had trouble learning new songs and techniques for competitions, but in the end I always succeed. Over the time that has passed I myself have noticed the improvement I have made as a musician, and am ready for any challenges a have to face as a
