What resonated with me the most when I read this interview were the response to the quote “[Students] came in with A's, and now what we're expecting them to do is go beyond a performance, which is short-lived, and to learn something [longterm]. Some students have a real hard time making that change from being a performer who did very well to a learner who is having a hard time. (Teschendorf & Nemshick, 2001). I feel Melissa’s response was so accurate. When it comes to writing quizzes and exams we have the answers at our disposal and we will study as much as we can to prove that we know what we are talking about, but like she said once you get to your professional career it’s not like that. I like how Melissa explained that we are there as a helping hand and it is our job to be able to read what our client and their families are ready for and knowing when to approach things. On the other hand for question six I agree 100% about what each of them have said. We represent our profession no matter where we are and we need to be aware of our environment and what we say. Like Melissa said we never know who may be our future clients.
I noticed this change near the end of placement. Looking back at it I was expected me to make mistakes as I was learning just like anyone else. But once I was a few weeks in that is when things started to change they started to hold me to a higher standard. When I made a mistake I learned quickly what was needed and how to fix it and that mistakes like that should not be made again. Over the course of my placement I learned how much you’re going to rely on other professionals and I feel like that was a right step towards become a professional
