What is COSA? COSA is Circles of Support and Accountability.This is a very intensive program that has been designed to help people with sexual impulses and desires. They focus heavily on high and medium risk sex offenders. They want to help those who struggle be able to function and live a normal healthy life. They hope to lower re-entry, they help you look for jobs, homes, anything that you may be missing. The volunteers and spiritual leaders of COSA always lend a helping hand. It is well put together, inexpensive, and most importantly it works. The United States doesn’t have as intense of a treatment program but we do have things similar. We see things like IOP programs, therapeutic treatments, counseling, but we also see a lot of jail time without any help for the offender upon release. We know that we can help them and we do our best, however there are not many statistics showing that this is helping and decreasing our re-entry rates. We have multiple re-entry programs that have been designed to help the amount of offenders from reentering decrease. On top of this being an advantage some may also see this as a disadvantage. I think that it helps to have trained professionals who specialize in a specific area who can help better understand the individual. Advantages of the COSA program is the meet weekly which helps give stability in the individual’s life and puts them on a schedule. They get to have a routine while having volunteers who want to help them stay on track. Also another advantage is while the volunteers go through intensive training the offenders who are wanting to be a part of this circle have to go through interviews, criminal background check, it’s a tedious process but it helps them better fit the individual into their
