Personal Statement It is my lifelong dream to one day attend California Polytechnic State University. It all started at a school field trip back in the 7th grade, where I was first inspired to pursue the engineering field. I still remember my middle school self touring around the campus, becoming more and more fascinated on my surroundings with every step I took. The architecture over there was breathtaking, I thought to myself, it is no wonder why Cal Poly is known to be one of the most prestigious schools for the field of engineering. I knew from that moment on that I will work hard to one day become a Mustang, so I went right to work. As we all know, CSU’s are not necessarily the cheapest of colleges, Cal Poly definitely not being an exception. With tuition being about $9,400 and adding extra costs such as food, housing, textbooks, supplies, etc. the total can range up to $22,000! Because of the huge price tag, I have taken the initiative to find ways in reducing the cost of my college tuition to make my dream a little more reachable. Doing so, I made the decision to attend a community college to get my general education out of the way. I also was eligible to have my community college for free thanks to a Cal Grant I have received allowing my to focus more on my studies rather than stress about paying for college. Getting that money will allow me to add to pay for any of the expensive engineering textbooks I might need for a class or maybe even a laptop I can use to do homework on. If that isn’t the case then I will for sure find a way to use that money in a productive way, even it means transferring into a savings account to use later for Cal Poly.
