Part I: 1-3 Summary The book starts off with two men name Henry and Bill trying to bring a man’s body back to the town of McGurry. The man’s name is Lord Alfred. The men and their team of six sled dogs are being chased by a hungry pack of wolves. They stop one night to feed the dogs but notice that there are seven dogs instead of six, and when morning comes there are only five. They discover that there is a female wolf leading the dogs away from the camp. This happens continually until only two dogs are left. Bill decides to try and kill the wolf but fails to and gets mauled by the hungry pack of wolves that have been chasing them. Henry is now alone with no ammo for the gun and his two remaining dogs, and after travelling very little over a number of days he has to build a fire around himself to keep safe. He believes he is going to die and gives up all hope, but is luckily saved by some men that find him. Part I: 1-3 Response I think that Henry and Bill already knew that their journey would be difficult before it even started. They had little ammo, food, and supplies. The Indian see him and try to pick him up. The pup is scared and growls at them, showing his teeth. They laugh at him and name him White Fang. When they try to pick him up a second time he bites them, and they beat him for it. He hollers and whines until his mother rushes in to save him, but stops and cowers before the Indians. It is revealed that she was the offspring of a dog they owned and a wolf, and was owned by a man named Gray Beaver. We learn her name was Kiche. Gray Beavers pets them and accepts them back into their camp, where White Fang must learn to adapt and trust the Indians.
