The novel is narrated by a little girl named Jean Louise Finch, also known as Scout. Scout is driven, mature, and wise for her age. There is a lot of changes that happen throughout the book for the community and also the children in the book because of what their father is doing.
Father, lawyer, and friend, the gentlemanly Atticus Finch hopes to shape the character of his children. The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, is the story of the childhood of a young girl named Jean Louise “Scout” Finch. Throughout the book, Scout’s father, Atticus, tries his best to raise her and her brother, Jem, the right way as a single parent. To Kill a Mockingbird exemplifies the way the character of Atticus Finch either uses ritual or abandons it in order to develop certain character qualities within his children. He specifically focuses on the development of honesty, courage, and humility.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is a really expressive book. It also really shows a lot about Harper Lee's childhood. To Kill A Mockingbird is about two little children named Jean Louise and Jem Finch they live in Maycomb with their dad and maid their mom died when Scout was really young. Their dad is a lawyer his name is Atticus Finch. Having your dad as a lawyer and him always on top of you, you would learn and most likely act older then most others of her age.
In the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, Scout’s mother died when she was at the age of 2. Growing without a mother, Scout has to depend on others to help guide mold her into the ideal woman. Each of these parental figures had their own way to teach Scout. With these role models to help Scout, she is able to develop as a throughout the entire book.
IN the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout finch, a daughter to Atticus and a sister to Jem Finch. Scout is an innocent five year old girl at the beginning of the book, but by the time the book ends she is a 9 year old girl finding out just how evil things can be. Scout is a young girl with a free spirit. She speaks her mind all throughout the book witch make the book very comical, as the novel goes on it is obvious that scout is an outspoken, intelligent, and brave girl.
Throughout the novel, Calpurnia interacts with Scout a lot as they live together and have a caring relationship with each other which allows Cal to teach Scout many important lessons including manners, understanding people and most importantly equality, and allowing her rebel against the Maycomb disease. After Scout beats up Walter Cunningham over a small mishap in the classroom she invites him over for lunch but finds herself questioning his eating styles. After making fun of him for it, Calpurnia teaches Scout an important lesson on manners when she says that it “Don't matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house's yo' comp'ny” (Lee 25). Calpurnia shows her understanding of manners and the differences between the Finches and the Cunninghams
Racial barriers and divisions, people who defy the stereotypes, and different views on the matter of race are all prevalent throughout Maycomb County and the story; a firm grasp and level of understanding different perspectives accounts for the type of person a character is. The primary outlier in “To Kill a Mockingbird” is the Finch household’s cook and housekeeper, Calpurnia. On page 27 in chapter three, Scout narrates, “Atticus said Calpurnia had more education than most colored folks.” Throughout the novel, we also see Calpurnia using language similar to or at least oriented towards that of white people. On the same page, Scout also recognizes, “... and when she was furious Calpurnia’s grammar became erratic.
In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the character Calpurnia has the traits of cantankerous and mother figure. Here Calpurnia being a mother figure is seen when they protected Jem and Scout when a rabid dog comes down the street.”... Then grabbed us by the shoulders and ran us home. She shut the wood door behind us”(Lee, pg 123).

In “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, a young girl named Jean Louise Finch (also nicknamed Scout) is the narrator and protagonist of the novel. At the beginning of the book, Scout is an innocent, friendly 6-year-old girl who has no experience with the evil things in the world. Her father Atticus Finch has raised her to become who she is, a tomboy. Scout is also faced with prejudice and how she copes with it helps add more personality and character. She is more intelligent than her peers and some still disagree with her learning ways.
In the story To Kill A Mockingbird all the characters descriptions are somewhat filtered by Scout because of her ways of seeing people differently. There is one character in particular whose way of being described gives the reader a sense that it is colored by Scout’s perspective, her name s Calpurnia. Calpurnia is introduced by narrator and main character Scout Finch as the cook. Although later in the story the reader learns that she is not only the cook and housekeeper, but also a mother-type figure to Scout and older brother Jem.
In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” each character sings their own unique “song”, some Aubrey 2 love, in a tidal wave of mystery, You'll still be standing next to me.” This shows that Jem would do a lot to keep his family safe, and do whatever needs to be done to do that. Next, Scout was really young when her mother passed so she does not really remember her. This is why Calpurnia is the closest thing to a mother that she has.
Many people forget the simplistic and common values that their child selves once held; values such as innocence and bliss, which children have always had since humans have walked the Earth. Their inability to see the harsher side of life has inspired many tales and exciting adventures from their point of view, which always adds an interesting way of thinking about the world. People so often lose this innocence that they fail to see and admire some of the things only kids can see. This much and more is most certainly true of Jean Louise Finch, the narrator and main character of Harper Lee’s famous book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Jean Louise, also known as Scout in the story, has many admirable qualities as a kid because she has the ability to think beyond herself and shows courage to the people around her.

Scout is considered a tom boy because of the standards of her time and place. Scout Finch, is the main character in “To Kill A Mockingbird” and the story is told from her point of view.
