The Holocaust and the Cambodian Genocide were two major events in history that caused millions of innocent people and even children to die. Although the actions that occurred during the Holocaust differ from those that occurred during the Cambodian Genocide, they happen to have many similarities. Since October 24th, 1945, the United Nations had the intention “to engage diplomatically as armed conflict is absolutely unacceptable” . Even though the United Nations stated this, genocides still continued to occur. This is seen in the cartoon, by the hundreds of skeleton heads with graves above the skeletons which is implying that the United Nations did not succeed in their goal (cartoon). The Nazis preferred way to kill the people was to use gas chambers. To get the people into the gas chambers, the Nazis lied to the people and told them that they would be going to take showers to get rid of their lice. Before entering the “showers”, The guards told the people to take off their clothes and give over all of their valuable possessions. Proceeding this, the guards pushed them into the gas chambers and within minutes the people were dead from lack of oxygen. The Khmer Rouge’s preferred method to kill the people was to put plastic bags on the people's heads and suffocate them. One similarity between the two is that both the Nazis and Khmer Rouge forced people to move out of their homes without any notice. If the people hesitated to do so, they would be killed. There are so many more similarities such as, the U.S did not get involved in either events, the Nazis and Khmer Rouge both wanted an agrarian lifestyle, and that both were obsessed with documenting every move. One last similarity between the Holocaust and Cambodian genocide is that the Nazis and Khmer Rouge both stole many of the people's valuable possessions like gold and money.
