Camera Angles In Edward Scissorhands

Tim Burton’s film, Edward Scissorhands, has a significant amount of interesting scenes including the captivating scene where Edward is joining the family for dinner along with two of Kim’s friends. Even though this scene only has the duration of about a minute, it has perfect use of a compatible dialogue, props and, numerous different camera angles, that all combine and enhance the the scene. This scene was put here to insure the audience understands a following scene.

The props, in most movies, are not focused on very often, and usually ignored. However, in this scene the props are shown a significant amount. The main props in this scene were the food, they are also the first thing that is seen in the scene. The meal on the table is a prop that is meant to look like a well prepared meal and have nice looking plates and glasses, as any family would bring out when eating with guests. During the start of the scene, the camera showed the whole dinner table, letting the viewers establish that this was definitely a dinner with friends, using a long shot with the camera. A camera movement; ‘panning’ was soon used when Edward had finished slicing some meat, and the camera showed him holding the meat up over the table then offering it to Kim’s friend. This camera angle shows Edward’s scissors and her rejecting the meat, but does not show the rest of Edward’s body. Then the camera uses panning again, following the meat as Edward offers it to kim, but then dropss it on her lap. When Bill states that “You can’t buy the necessities of life with cookies”, the camera was at eye level with him, this shows that he was saying something he thought was important and
