In the book 'Holes' by Louis Sachar, Stanley the protagonist tries to overcome the struggles in Camp Green Lake. There was once a beautiful large lake, but now it is just a flat, dry wasteland which turn bad children into a good. Stanley was an isolated person with no friend and he was unlucky of the curse that his great great grandfather that made him went to Camp Green Lake . Stanley was challenged by digging holes in the blistering weather and whenever he dug a hole he become stronger by each hole he dug. Stanley faces many problems during his time at Camp Green Lake but he manages to overcome all of them.

Before Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake, he was bullied because of his physical shape. When Stanley was at school 'a bully's name Derrick Dunne used to torment Stanley.' In camp green lake Stanley made a relationship with the campers but Stanley had made a special bond with Zero. Stanley was a loyal friend to Hector Zeroni (Zero), When Zero was running away from Camp Green Lake"Stanley tried to bring a whole water …show more content…

At camp Green Lake Stanley had many troubles digging holes in Camp Green Lake the soil was so dry that he tried to "jam the shovel it into the earth but the blade... bounced off without making a dent". Stanley was the last one to finish he need to dug the hole "five feet deep and five foot wide" whenever Stanley dug his hole he feel so much pain because his "blisters had ripped open and formed and new blisters formed." Stanley conquered this by adapting to the blistering condition and every time that Stanley dug a hole he got stronger. He notices after some time at Camp Green Lake he was growing stronger his "muscles and hand soon had toughened up over the past Serval week" and "His hands weren't the only parts of his body which had toughened... His heart had hardened too." Through persistence, Stanley manage to overcome the physical challenges at Camp green
