Camp Invention has been described by many as a “once in a lifetime experience” (Pham), providing young students with the opportunity to engage in hands on STEM related activities that require the use of teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Camp invention ensures that the educators and volunteers they use are certified and local, giving participants the best experience possible. They even update their program yearly, keeping up with the latest STEM discoveries.

Camp invention believes that their, “…top priority is to inspire future innovators and build confidence in the natural ability to dream and create” (National Inventors Hall of Fame). They achieve this by using hands-on, STEM related activities that are not only fun, but encourage students to think critically and creatively. According to Florida State University, “Teaching STEM in elementary grades opens the door for teachers and students to become tomorrow’s movers and shakers. Young children with a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics will go on to play an integral role in our nation’s global competitiveness and economic stability” …show more content…

They do this by offering what they call a “leadership internship”. Through this unpaid internship, high school students gain valuable leadership experience and earn up to 40 volunteer hours in the process. The internship runs at the same time as Camp Invention, and during this time interns accompany teachers, help with instruction, organize and set up various classrooms, and direct the Camp Invention participants. This allows interns to improve their management skills, communication abilities, and to learn about mentorship (“Camp Invention”, National Inventors Hall of Fame). The experience is perfect for inspiring yourself and others while strengthening college applications. By the end of the term, Camp Invention even provides a letter of recognition from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Together, all of these things make for an amazing summer camp experience that parents, participants, and interns love.
