Your hands are shaking as you grab the rope and hook it on to your harness. You feel sick when you step on to a little platform that you can’t even sit on. “Don’t look down,” you tell yourself. Then you hear the counselor say,”one, two, three!” You push yourself off the platform in hope that the line will catch you, or else it’s a fifty five foot drop. This is exactly how I felt when I went ziplining at Camp Kern. At Camp Kern I didn’t just learn how to get over my fears, I learned a lot about myself and my peers, and ways I can become a better leader going forward. Our field trip to Camp Kern was a pretty good day considering we weren’t in school. It had it’s ups and downs, some stuff I liked, others not so much. One good thing I got out of Camp Kern was how I got to learn about myself and how I interact with others. On the bright side, I think I did a good job encouraging others and hanging out with people I don’t know as well. Honestly, I probably should have helped my group out a little more in the adventure challenge, even though it was not necessarily requested by my classmates in my group. I learned some different things about my classmates that I might have never learned if we didn’t go to Camp Kern. Some of the things I learned about other people were their personalities, character traits and things they like or don’t like. Some of my classmates I talked to were more outgoing and were more happy to be at Camp Kern than others. Others were more laid back and would have rathered be screwing around and doing whatever.
