I would like to take some time to discuss the issue of media in the world of sports. In doing so, I would like to focus on whether or not one needs the other. Can they stand independently of each other? In what ways do the two issues of sports and the media intertwine? These are some of the issues I would like to focus on and address.

Introduction When I think of sports and the media my mind immediately goes to one event every year. When I think of the culmination of sports and the media I think of The Super Bowl. Millions of dollars are spent every year for advertising just on this singular event. It is such a spectacular visual presentation. I know people who personally could care less about the game, but they watch for the commercials. Advertisers bring out their big guns for The Super Bowl. Let us also not forget the half time show. There is a ton of money spent on booking the acts that perform for that as well. The media is a massive part, if not the biggest part, of making The Super Bowl such a successful event. The real question is, can sports survive without the media?

There are thousands of jobs and lives that weave into one another within these two worlds. You have the athletes, owners, coaches, companies, and marketing firms to name a few. Then on the other side of the spectrum we have the consumer. That can mean so many different things as well. It can be moms, dads, and kids. There is no end to the amount of people that are effected my sports marketing. We also cannot forget about the merchandising end of the sports world.
