Have you ever thought of a whole stadium watching a group of players facing each other in a game of Super Smash Bros. Melee? Many people think that video games shouldn’t become a sport,but it is very close to being a sport. There are plenty of reasons to show video games are a sport. People have to train and be skilled to play. Although many people say anyone can play games, not everyone can play a game as good as someone else can. Ethan says, “Like other Olympic events, digital gaming requires concentration, rapid reflexes, strategy and endurance-not to mention countless hours of training” (Cognoscenti). A person might beat someone at a game and say it doesn’t take skill to do this but then play against another person who practices playing that game and lose to them. Paul says, “...electronic sports, where professionals from Brazil to South Korea travel around the world competing in tournaments of games like Starcraft II, League of Legends, and Call of Duty for large quantities of cash and adoration” (Pacific Standard). Players play against each other for money just like players in other sports do. Sports have a large audience and so do video games. Ethan says, “Video games certainly meet that higher level of participation threshold” (Cognoscenti). Many people go to see sports because they are fun to watch [punctuation error] and video games can also be entertaining by watching someone else play them. Some sports need extra devices too. Ethan says, “But sports requiring devices or machines to compete, like cycling, aren’t disqualified. Following this logic, video games shouldn’t be banned just because gamers need an Xbox 360 to play them.” (Cognoscenti). Video games need to have a system to play them on like how one needs a car to do racing or a bicycle for cycling. Video games have a lot of similarities with
