Canadians have fought heroically in many battles throughout history. Canadian troops continue to persist no matter how difficult the battle may be. They are brave, courageous and role models for Canada. The battle that Canada fought on June 6, 1944 is a great example. Operation Overload, also called D-Day is the day when a military operation started, such as the landings on the beaches of Normandy. It was one of the most toughest and important battles faced by Canadian troops. Canada's brave and courageous fighting at Juno Beach on D-Day is a defining moment in Canadian history and helps establish a Canadian identity as it helped Canada gain independence, helped bring an end to World War Two and brought national pride to the country.

The allies and the Canadian troops managed to bring an end to this severely. The German army was weakening, and so when they fought with the Canadian soldiers on D-Day, they suffered more losses than they had in any other battle. Also after fighting through the towns of Bernieres, Courseulles and St.Aubin, they continued and defeated the Germans first line of defence in just one day. Moreover, “Most German strategists felt that the target would be the Pas-de-Calais area, where the English Channel was narrowest. Therefore, the strongest defences were constructed there.” (D-Day, The Beginning of the End for Nazi Germany). At the end, the allies did not land there which surprised the Germans and made them less prepared for the attack on Normandy beaches. Next, defeating the Germans led to the freeing of Netherlands and then to the end of Nazi-Germany.
