9. Why has USA (or Canadian) animation been so influential on Europe since AFTER the 2nd World War?

Animation, the art form of bringing inanimate objects to life, imaginary characters stuck in our heads to form and worlds unknown or none existent into reality. Animation is the process of bringing shapes, scenes, characters and pretty much all things to life through motion and movement. For all of my childhood and adult life, Animation from across the sea has flooded my television telling stories, entertaining, teaching and informing its audience but why has American animation been so influential and why has European animation only been up and coming in the past few decades?

MGM (or Metro Goldwyn Mayer) was feeling success with Tom and Jerry. Once war broke out and America became involved, animation changed for the greater good. Families were being broken apart and men were deployed to help out in far away countries. Women took up work and the element of danger was felt throughout the world. Animators and studios stepped up to the mark and joined the war effort in the best way they could and enlisted in the 18th air force base unit, also known as the first motion picture unit. Put together in 1942, it consisted of animators from the major studios of the time banding together as one. They produced propaganda films to boost moral among the soldiers and public and animators at home joined them, releasing such shorts as Disney's “Der fuehrer's face” which features Donald Duck as a Nazi worker and Warner Brothers “Daffy the Commando” which features Daffy Duck as a commando dropped behind enemy lines. As the war efforts took effect, American soldiers were distributed all over the globe in supporting countries helping fight the Nazi regime. This raised the curiosity of the public, as global travel was not so easily achieved at that time. Americans coming to local areas would have been almost like celebrities visiting in those times because of their growing power and strong partnership with England.
