All the graphs have data points which show the averages of the site between the two trials. There is a line of best fit which has a slope of r², which is the correlation value between canopy cover and the variable tested. Figure 1 shows the average macroinvertebrate rating between Trial 1 and Trial 2. The correlation value (r²) of 0.07 shows an extremely weak, negative relationship between canopy cover and macroinvertebrates. The site with 25% canopy cover had the highest average macroinvertebrate rating of 16. The lowest rating of 10 was collected at the site with 75% canopy cover. Dissolved oxygen and canopy cover is compared in Figure 2, with a weak correlation of 0.01 (r²). The highest average value of 22.5 mg/L was found at the …show more content…
There is no correlation between canopy cover and Phosphorus, as the r² is 0.004. Figure 4 shows the relationship between Nitrogen levels and canopy cover. The highest concentration is 1.36 mg/L, which was found at the site with 75% canopy cover. The lowest concentration is 0.527 mg/L with 25% canopy cover. The correlation value of 0.214 shows a weak relationship. The relationship between turbidity and canopy cover can by seen in Figure 5. The values varied by 4.01 NTU, with 75% having the highest value and 25% with the lowest. The correlation value is 0.634 which means there is a moderate relationship between turbidity and canopy cover. Materials and …show more content…
One container held only crayfish, another snails, and the last one had everything else. Crayfish and snails are in separate containers from the rest because the smaller macroinvertebrates, like Mayfly larvae and Caddisfly larvae, would hide on the crayfish and snails. After about two hours of collecting, I began to identify and count all of the macroinvertebrates I collected using a macroinvertebrate identification guide. I released all the macroinvertebrate back into the stream. I measured the length and width of the site and recorded that into my data sheet. All observations and activities were recorded in my field log for future
