Blackbeard: aka Captain Edward Teach. Believed to have been born in Bristol England in the late 17th century. He had a whole fleet of pirate ships, of which ‘Queen Anne’s Revenge’ was the largest. His pirate flag was a horned devils skeleton with an hourglass in one hand and a spear in the other. It is rumored that he had fourteen wives! Calico Jack: aka Captain John Rackham. Born late 17th century. Originally a quartermaster, he got rid of his cruel captain and sailed with his own band of men. Hunted Spanish ships in the Caribbean. His pirate flag was a skull and cross cutlasses, though he is remembered as a ‘kinder’ pirate towards his captives. Captain William Kidd: He was born near Greenock in Scotland c. 1645, the son of a Presbyterian minister. He began as a pirateer for Queen Elizabeth but soon got himself in to trouble and became a pirate around the Americas. …show more content…

Major Stede Bonnet: The only pirate believed to make his victims walk the plank, though Blackbeard may have forced one of his crew to do it, as a joke. Born in Barbados in 1689, he decided to become a pirate although he had no sea faring experience, (some say he put to sea to escape a nagging wife!) Teamed up with Blackbeard for a while. His flag was one bone beneath a skull, a dagger to the right and a heart to the left. Sir Francis Drake: later became one of the greatest British seamen of the Elizabethan age. Drake committed numerous acts of piracy, the major difference was that he did so in the name of Queen Elizabeth I and flew the English flag of St. George. He plundered and looted every Spanish vessel he could lay his hands on and became a wealthy man, sharing his spoils with Her Majesty, thus making what he did OK! Corsairs: Pirates based in the Mediterranean. Buccaneers: Pirates who operated in the Caribbean and around the coast of South America during the 17th
