This commemorative coin was based off of the Capitol building in Colonial Williamsburg. The Capitol was where Patrick Henry gave his speech Caesar Brutus. This speech was very inspirational and important to the colonists. This is why on the front side of the coin Patrick Henry’s face is shown along with his famous words “Give me liberty, or give me death!” These very inspirational words are a sign of liberty which is why on the back is the Grand Union Flag.
On April 3rd 1968 Former civil rights leader Martin Luther King jr. employs the appeal of ethos, pathos and logos effectively in his speech “I’ve been to the mountaintop”. to persuade the people to stand up for equality. Martin Luther king jr. use of pathos strengthens his ability to make an emotional connection with the audience because they must have went through the similar experience. “Thirteen Hundred of God’s children are suffering, sometimes are going hungry,going through dark and dreary nights”.
In 1770’s Patrick Henry said his famous speech “ Speech to the Virginia” to the Congress. His famous quote was “Give me liberty or give me death!” Henry fear was that he didn’t want to let down his country and didn’t wanted to fail the nation. His speech in Virginia was effectively using pathos because people were full of sadness as their nation was falling apart (History.com). People wanted change in the society and congress.
“It is yourselves who have called us to this office… we have our authority from God”. The “little speech” delivered by John Winthrop after his impeachment of “having exceeded his authority” made a strong impression on his view of natural liberty as corrupt and moral liberty as “proper end and object of society” and his authority to rule “by God to maintain law”. Winthrop’s view of authority is upon God, the divine ruler that “maintain law”. Winthrop creates a tone of seriousness to showcase his view.
George Washington, being the first president, felt that in order to maintain structure in the government after he was no longer in charge, had to leave a letter to his country’s citizens. Washington began his address by giving thanks and appreciation to everyone for giving him the opportunity to lead their country and explaining his reasoning for declining another term. Along with these reasons, he pointed out some of the flaws of his presidency, admitting to the public that he was not a perfect American leader and that he is not a stencil into which all other presidents should be carved out of. A couple of weeks ago the Pope spoke for the very first time to the American Congress. Behind his speech, it should be noticeable the contradiction between his liberalist image, which has been seen before when he discussed topics such as homosexuality; and his conservative tone when talking about families, in this specific occasion, for example. As Francis is supposed to, he represented the Catholic Church as an united institution to the modern world; smoothly trying to open the minds of extremists but not crossing border lines. To achieve his main goal, to please as many different mind sets as possible, he left some topics off his speech.

As the Arbella finally entered the Massachusetts Bay waters and a group of weary travelers who had fled the religious harassment of the Old Word finally set their sights on a new frontier, Governor John Winthrop boldly proclaimed "we shall be as a city on a hill, the eyes of all people are upon us". This iconic speech given by Winthrop remains a classic even to this day, for it gallantly challenged the new settlers who had endured so much to brightly proclaim to the world the core values which the Puritans treasured. Winthrop was determined to succeed when other colonies at the time had failed, and envisioned a colony where the righteousness of Puritan living would radiate out like a city on a hill and bring reform to the Anglican Church which dominated England.
When the actors come to town Hamlet asks them to put on a special play that he has written, one that will reveal if the King is truly guilt. The play is reenacting the death of King Hamlet as the ghost describes it; as murder. His plan is to get a reaction from the King to assure the ghosts is telling the truth about King Hamlet’s death. When the actors get to the scene of the murder, King Claudius exits the theater. Hamlet now knows that the ghost was being truthful.

Firstly, Hamlet is a play of a man by the name of Hamlet, whose father was murdered by Claudius, his uncle. Claudius murdered the king by pouring poison in his ear to claim the throne for himself. Hamlet is then told by a ghost to murder Claudius for revenge, and he struggles within himself for the length of play whether to do it or not. When Hamlet begins to hesitate it does more damage than good and causes a chain reaction of tragic events, and makes the readers question whether Hamlet is truly sane or not. Claudius’s corruptness begins to show when he uses his authority to order those around him to rid of Hamlet.
Each generation always has a vision for a brighter, better future. George Orwell’s book Animal Farm had a leader, an old pig named Old Major, who envisioned a future full of hope and prosperity amongst the animals. Martin Luther King, Jr. also wanted a hopeful future where everyone was treated equally. They both were visionaries who one day made a speech and proclaimed it to people who thought the same way. Old Major’s speech and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech can be compared through the situations they both faced with the groups they represented, the vision and solution they had for the future, and the literary devices that they used in their speech.
