Career Interview I interviewed Courtney Ferry, an athletic trainer here at Minnesota State University-Mankato. Courtney works with a lot of the athletes here at MSU-Mankato, and that is how I have gotten to know her. I had her as an athletic trainer last year, and she has gotten me very interested in becoming an athletic trainer. I was a little uncertain what the typical day was like for an athletic trainer. Courtney told me that most of her day is very, very busy. She starts out her day getting everything ready for the practices of the team she is in charge of. Courtney then has athletes start coming in. She must access any injuries the players may have or do treatments on pre-existing injuries. Seeing athletes is what most of her day consists of. Understanding her typical work day, was very interesting to me. I did not know so much of the day was taken up by seeing and treating athletes. …show more content…
Courtney explained to me that communication is the most important thing in being an athletic trainer. Courtney when on to say that it is important because the coaching staff must know what is going on with their players and if they are able to participate in practices and games or not. Courtney also needs to be able to communicate effectively with doctors. Overall, Courtney said communication is the most important thing in her job, from communicating with the athletes, to co-workers, to coaches, and to doctors. Unsuccessful communication to anyone involved with the athlete could cause some preventable problems. Honestly, this kind of surprised me. It didn’t even cross my mind how crucial communication is in this field. After looking back at it all though, it makes tremendous amounts of
