Computer Engineers While researching the STEM field and global computer market, I was attracted to the countless career paths when you’re a computer engineer. It’s all a matter of what suits your personality and skill concentration. Computer engineering is the name of the major you’d study and is a broad term. Computer engineers actually go on to have different and multiple job titles and duties and work environments. I became interested in this major and field as a young child in awe of the communication and efficiency power technology provides. I am also interested in a leadership position in a nonprofit company improving the communication capabilities of less advanced communities around the world. Getting work is very much about networking and computer professionals everywhere are great at staying connected through organizations like The Institute of Eletrtical & Electronic Engineers Computer Society (IEEE) - The IEEE Computer Society. My goal in this paper will be providing the information I found which researching the job prospects and days in the life of computer engineers, the group I hope to join in my future. Computer engineers can take on the alternative job titles of applications software engineers, directors of network services, hardware engineers, network engineers, software engineers, and systems software engineer, which doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be doing very different tasks. Every job is different. On-the-job training and interning before being offered and acquiring a full time position you want is almost always necessary. The many different types of jobs a computer engineer takes on with require different concentrations while in college. So while you must have a general knowledge of all of computer science, be sure to have a skill focus for the specific job title you’ll have in the future and to make you a unique candidate. The qualifications to work as a computer engineer in a federal research institution like I’d like requires criteria, such as experience keeping confidential information and working in labs and possibly certain certifications.
