Carmen Azrael Nightshade (née Lazarus; October 31, 1473) was born in Transylvania, Romania. She grew up in a royal vampire household. She is the only daughter of the King and Queen of Transylvania, Draco and Alcina Lazarus. Her father is a vampire lord, and her mother is a vampiric queen and a descendant of Lilith. At the age of 14, Carmen’s parents forced her to be in an arranged marriage to Zayden Kovacs, a sorcerer prince from Budapest, Hungary, who took pleasure in causing her pain. Her refusal caused Draco and Alcina to strip Carmen of her royal status as the heir to the throne and imprison her in the dungeons of the Transylvanian Kingdom. Not long after, London sheriffs captured her and took her to Bethlehem Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in Bromley. There, she was strapped in a straitjacket and gaslighted by a doctor into becoming a psycho. She became a person who was emotionally distant and guarded as a result of past experiences. The following year, Carmen met Darkiplier Nightshade, a demon who had been obsessed with her for centuries and had fallen in love with her. He freed her from Bethlehem Hospital after she warned him about the consequences of not treating her right. In October 1494, on her 21st birthday, their romance began when she realized she was in love with him to a degree that felt almost beyond her control. He proposed to her on Valentine's Day in 1496, and she changed her name to Carmen Nightshade when they wed on December 13. During the wedding ceremony, Carmen and Darkiplier became the King and Queen of the Dark Realm Kingdom, where they reside. On August 11, 1499, Carmen gave birth to her and Darkiplier's daughter, Luna Ravenna Nightshade, a vampire and demon hybrid and the princess and heir of the Dark Realm
