At Carnegie Mellon, I will apply to the College of Engineering and the Mellon College of Science for Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, respectively. The main reason that I want to apply to the College of Engineering is because my grandfather got his degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon in 1972. It actually took him thirteen years to get the degree because he was working during the day. It seems to me that Carnegie Mellon has a lot of flexibility with its students in terms of study and work. I want to pursue chemical engineering because Pittsburgh is a city where I could set my engineering abilities to work. I ultimately would want to work in a pharmaceutical company because I find the chemistry of drugs interesting.

Ever since I was little, I always had the desire to create. For example, I feel that I used my siblings for physical labor in attempting to engineer new attractions to entertain ourselves, especially outside. One day, when I was probably around eight years old, we decided to make a swimming pool in our backyard during the summer. My parents were both preoccupied with work, so with the help of my siblings, we dug a giant hole for hours (around three feet deep). Right as we were about to put a tarp in it and put water in it, my dad came outside and angrily ordered us to fill it. My siblings conveniently decided to go inside, and since I was the ringleader, I spent the next two hours filling it myself. I also liked to try to make homemade stairs out of whatever I could find in my shed to allow my siblings to be able to climb trees that they were too short to get up. Furthermore, even though it is not practical, I always used to play on roller coaster building games. I learned a lot about the physics of amusement park rides by simply creating them.
