This written task is from the Critical Study section of the course. In this unit, we’ve studied Carol Ann Duffy’s poetry anthology “The World’s Wife”, and different perspectives different audiences may see it from. I want to explore Duffy’s style in detail, making three poems aimed to be “added to the anthology”, by using her style and voice, as well as analysing female empowering perspectives in 3 popular characters from history. I’ve been inspired by 3 stories from popular characters, Clytemnestra, Bruce Jenner, and Harley Quinn, as I feel they’re all characters who deserve to have a voice, showing their perspective of the situations they’re surrounded by, which is why I’ll do a poem for each character, adding them to the “World’s Wife” anthology …show more content…
Ten years is a long time for a woman to be left unsatisfied. A year before he returned I met Aegisthus, he juggled, I giggled
We were almost a married couple
He fixed me, pleased me, convinced me.
Made me an axe, bought me a carpet
Filled my chest and legs with garments.
Agamemnon was just a memory fading in my mind
And the tenth year arrived, what a bad time. My dear Agamemnon came home,
My fury for his actions crept into my bones.
Welcomed my darling, brought him inside,
Please step on the carpet, I said and I cried.
You’re sweaty and filthy, and tired as well,
Come in take a shower, to clear that smell. We were showering; his godly hands touched my face,
Naked in the shower, he screwed me, increase his pace,
Hard, fast, rough, anything could’ve happened,
It was then when he ran into my axe three times. It was self-defence; I never intended to do such thing,
My purple carpet, stained in red,
Everyone thought I found him when already dead
Who would’ve imagined,
Agamemnon, loving husband and father.
You will be missed. But we’re only married until death do us
