The main challenge facing CAMBA’s Park Slope Women MICA shelter is the lack of capacity to adequately provide for these women and their families the necessary resources that will see them integrate into the community. They are unable to fully meet the heights their mission sets for them because there is always a chance of relapse or noncompliance. Therefore, further interventions are needed to support the general well-being of the society. Further, CAMBA’s Park Slope Women MICA shelter meets the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds. They face the challenge of meeting culturally sensitive needs.

Booth House provides a great service to the community of Syracuse. It has led to less mixing of the homeless population by creating a separate place for teen boys and girls. Though their process is not perfect and there is always room for improvement, they still manage to impact many lives. While writing this paper the writer began to really contemplate the assessment process at Booth House. To the writer Booth House’s confidentiality process is well done.

The Vinch Family chose to donate a portion of their proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. St Jude Children’s Hospital understands, treats, and defeats diseases and forwards their impactful research internationally. Every child saved at St Jude means that doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands of more children. About seventy five percent of the hospital’s budgets rely on donations, so it’s extremely important to raise awareness and continually make public contributions. The Vinch Family, being of Vietnamese descent, finds it crucial to look beyond the local spectrum of health and medicine.
Working with Neiman Marcus will allow the nonprofit to increase its capacity in providing relief and jobs to women in Dallas who have “a history of incarceration, abusive relationships, sex trafficking or poverty” (Fancher & Repko 2016). The Akola Project’s social enterprise nature is that of a hybrid nonprofit because it is able to balance market and mission (Worth, 2013). This union of empowerment opportunity and product investment truly demonstrates Akola’s “balancing commitment to [their] mission with responsiveness to the market” (Worth, 2013 p. 35). The Akola Project’s partnership demonstrates the transformative power of nonprofits using business methods in today’s
They have homes where the clients rescued from domestic violence and sexual assault will stay until they are fully recovered. One of the values I observed demonstrated by the agency is bringing the clients to the penny wise resale store to select all the items they need such as clothing and shoe. The agency is a big organization that covered domestic, abusive, and sexually assaulted women in Fort Bend County. They employed social work at all level. The social work does a fantastic job by rescuing
YiPEE allowed me to witness a local economical process during restaurant week of which community members obtain more information about local businesses as well as different ways to support them and allow the area to experience growth. Depictions of philanthropic practices control my memories as I think about Tent City where people of all ages come out to support the homeless community by donating, serving, and caring for them by providing a shoulder to cry on and an ear for
SHOW CONNECTION Jon Kurht’s article “When helping doesn't help” is a personal narrative discussing Kurht’s experience managing a homeless shelter, and discussing the hardships and complications that come with helping the homeless. Kuhrt notably states that shelters “actually bred further cynicism and depression in those young people because many were ashamed of what they were doing - they knew they were profiting from the naivety and kindness of others.” Logos can be found within the reasoning and conclusions found by Kurht. Each summer during the weeks of our CCD program, a drive was held and students were asked to bring in school supplies which would be sent to the group of students in the island country whose school tuition we raised money to pay for through through bake sales. This was always an event that I looked forward to as it brought me great joy to see the way in which our parish was changing the lives of these students. Due to this, I would always offer to go with my mother to organize the received materials and pack individual backpacks for the children, which only further strengthened my desire to make a change in Haiti. My interest specifically in the Be Like Brit organization began when Mrs. Gengel, Brit’s mom, came to speak at my church about the mission of the orphanage created in Brit’s memory as well as the goal of rebuilding Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. After hearing her speak, I immediately looked further into the organization, followed their Facebook page and inquired about volunteer opportunities.
The charity works with international partners to help marginalized communities throughout the world find their voice and combat crises. One of the charity’s programs is the Advocacy Quilts, which are used to tell the stories of marginalized people. Kay Scanlan, a sophomore in the program, was so moved by the quilts that she decided they needed to be brought to Salve. Along with a few other Nuala Pell scholars Scanlan began coordinating the event.
