The artwork that I have chosen to visually analyze is Town of Harrisonburg, VA by Emma Lyon Bryan. It was created in 1867 and is an oil on canvas painting. This artwork is located in the Duke Hall Gallery of Fine Art at James Madison University and is around 36” long and 24” high. This piece is a depiction of what Harrisonburg looked like in 1867. Bryan’s artwork is held in a wooden glass frame with a gold border and displays the buildings of the town, dirt roads, open land, mountains, and many other small details.
The Rivercene Mansion, a Civil War era country home in New Franklin, Missouri, is known to be haunted by the souls of previous owners. The Kinney family, the original owners of the house in the late 1800’s, had eight members of their family die in the house. Joseph Kinney, the father of the Kinney children, was a steamboat captain along the Missouri River who work hard and saved money to built the house in 1869, he died of natural causes in 1892. Six of the eleven children died before the age of seven. The youngest son, Noble Kinney, suffered the most tragic of the deaths: he fell over the second story balcony and down the main staircase, he died instantly.

It has to be difficult for someone to leave the only place they have ever known, and move to an entirely different continent, but yet it has to be truly brave too. Many immigrants left their homes, and traveled thousands of miles to The United States of America, in search of not only a new life, but a better way of life. In New York City, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, on 97 Orchard Street, stands a monumental building. The Tenement Museum is a historical site, which reflects the time span of 1863 -1935, during some of the peak years of European immigration to America.
On the overpass leading into Yonkers is a large sign which states "GENERATION Y" short for generation Yonkers. After some research I found out that this was a plan to revitalize Yonkers. Mayor Mike Spano has approved for one billion dollars to be used fix up downtown Yonkers, focusing on the riverfront, in order to attract young business men and women. The idea in itself is wonderful. Not only are they fixing up dilapidated buildings, they are also bringing in new businesses that will stimulate the economy.
The city of Chelsea in Shelby County, is one of the fastest growing cities in the entire state of Alabama. Chelsea is an attractive area due to its small town feel and family friendly population. The city has a great deal to offer as a home however has one problem that has gotten little attention by local representatives. As the new city mayor one would hope to address numerous areas of roadways that have gotten little to no maintenance over the years. Potholes in the city have been neglected and as a result have become a problem for local residents.

Liberty, the county seat of Clay County, is one of the many suburbs surrounding Kansas City. Although Liberty was technically established before Kansas City, the growth of the latter has played a significant part in Liberty's growth. Many residents of Liberty commute to Kansas City to work, attend cultural events or further their education. However, this does not mean that Liberty is a bedroom community; it is a self-sufficient community with a proud heritage and a thriving economy. There has been a lot of changes throughout New Amsterdam history. In 1609 until the year of 1664 there has been dramatic changes in history that has brought the country together in unity overtime. During this time in history many explorers had sailed across the ocean in hopes of discovering something that no one else had before. One such explorer was Henry Hudson, who went on an expedition to find a faster route to supplies that he and other people in the New Netherlands needed. Hudson made his first voyage from England in 1607 where he then tried to find a “shorter route around to Asia from Europe and through the Arctic Ocean” (History, 2009).
Reston, Virginia: Gateway to Excitement I prefer to live in Reston, Virginia, rather than Sterling, Virginia, because I can ride the metro. There are two stores like Banana Republic and BeBe, where I like to go to shop. One of the reasons I want to live in Reston is because there are attractions like ice skating and a water fountain. It is open to the public every season and is beautiful.
Blacks in slavery all over the world were not allowed to read or write. Even though some did like Frederick Douglass, that restriction on language hindered their development in language. This made them stick out in a crowd full of white people, who were always allowed to read in gains that growth in English or any other think which. Now with some blacks being the descendants of many of those slaves, the "slave" language has followed them through generations. But they are still criticized in judged on their speech pattern and slang, being categorized into a box labeled "ghetto" or “inferior”.
