The Foundation is looking at organizations that collaborate and strengthen systems of care. Preference is given to Baltimore, MD communities for the veterans. Eligible organizations are committed to mental health and the elimination of barriers, have the ability to demonstrate long term outcomes. The eligible organization must have an (501)( c )(3) and has existing services for veterans. I am confident this RFP is worth pursuing because the grant proposal includes the organizations eligibility and demonstrates various preferences aligned with the Foundation and the goals of grant seeker (Ward, 2012).
This program is a non-medical home care program that aids low-income seniors, adults and children with disabilities. This service pays for someone to go out to the client’s home and help with “chores.” There is also the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) that helps agencies plan, develop, and coordinate services for older adults 60 years of age or older. The AAA gets about 2 million dollars in grants and gives those funds to local non-profit agencies. The AAA funds more than a handful of services including; outreach, medals, legal services, family caregiver support and many more.
Debra, Thank you for your post. Your description of Seven Counties Services as an organization that aides individuals “who are fighting addictions, abuse, mental illness, and developmental disabilities” is remarkable (Mrock, 2016, para.1). What a wonderful organization. Crutchfield and Grant (2012) stated that “high-impact nonprofits engage in both direct service and advocacy”(p.49). It is clear from your post that Seven Counties Services provide a service to the individuals whom it engages.
Although larger systems impact the isolation of people disabilities, the institutional programs further inhibit the participation in the community. As of now, Anixter is a closed system, standing alone without working with other systems. The only other system that they work with is governmental assistance due to billing. I think it is very possible to provide services for people while at the same time trying to change the systems. IN working with other systems, Anixter can assist their clients in developing skills that allows them to interact naturally and successfully in their social environments.
She wrote articles about special education, and mental health problems and solutions. She used her own experience to show that assistive technology is a good resource for students who face challenges in their daily life. Assistive technology has helped her become successful by allowing her to continue with her studies. She shows us that she didn’t give up and found alternatives in order to keep attending school.
Three services in my community are Meals on Wheels, several classes and support groups (I will only talk about one: Stepping On), and Memory Cafes. All of these services are through the ADRC and are proven to be very helpful. The Meals on Wheels program serve 50,000 meals per year and is continuing to grow. This program is available on a long-term or temporary basis and is for people that are recovering from a surgery or illness.
An example from my own experience, while communicating with service users with vision impairment and ensuring principles of support are applied to health and social care settings, the organization had many technologies based equipment. For example, talking microwaves, watches and phones used in a Braille format. This was very effective as it demonstrated how service users with

Before the 1920s, rehabilitation services were provided to individuals with disabilities in the United States through philanthropic and voluntary charitable organizations (Jenkins, Patterson, & Szymanski, 1998). The services provided by these different organizations, were the driving force for the development of current vocational rehabilitation (VR) programs. Within the United States, a partnership exists between Federal and State programs that are provided for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities. Federal departments including the Departments of Education, Labor and Justice, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board, and the National Council on Disability were charged

I want people to understand that the people with disabilities are the same that us. The only thing they need to do is give a chance. My purpose is to make understand people that they are not different… Actually they are better, why? Because they face a challenge every day.
