After watching ‘Sick Around America’ I was completely disgusted with our healthcare system. Its not to stay that I was not already disgusted with how our healthcare system is run in this country. All I could see think about after having worked 30 years in and around this system and seen some of the changes throughout the years, it brought in to focus how much a majority of these companies, physicians, hospitals and other providers are just looking at the almighty dollar instead of the wellbeing …show more content…

Each of these different theories has its own benefits and drawbacks. First off, the selection theory discusses the relationship between lower income and poorer health, and the factors that affect it. That people who might live in the lower income portions of a town are generally less heathy due to poor choices for the foods they eat, mostly because of the lack of funds to purchase better things or the food assistance they receive doesn’t afford for better choices. Also, there is a possibility that their genetics might affect both their socioeconomic status and health. It’s said that if you are poor and unhealthy, according to this theory, you likely just have bad genes (Conley, 2017). While the explanation of the Drift theory suggest that a person’s health can cause a change in their social position. This means that if you are in poor health then you would and should be less likely to find a position at a company that will sustain you and your family. People who have moderate to severe health issues that are constantly in and out of different doctors’ offices are less reliable employees and therefore not able to support the “work team” like a healthy person would. A person who has to go in to a treatment center for infusion therapy of some sort, while that could possibly be a life saving treatment for them, means the company is short one worker, which means less work is done, which causes the company to lose money, which causes them to cut back people or hours, or worse yet change their health insurance plans to ones that do not cover needed treatments (Conley, 2017). Finally, the theory about social determinants says that one’s social position is tied to one’s own health. In this type of theory, the people of a higher social position and higher income were more likely to have more resources at their disposal to keep
