Ron was a young school going boy, whose family was living the American dream. His dad had retired from army and had a life assured income. His mom left the job to be with her family. They moved on to Canada, US. They bought a house which had a pool. Dad started a second career in an information technology company. Mom got another job. Little Ron was soon enrolled at Little Whingin Academy. Ron looked excited to go to school. However, Ron, was becoming increasingly easily fatigued, and had fine bruises that had nothing to do with ordinary playground activities. In, 1999, May, he was diagnosed with the most advanced stage of neuroblastoma which is a rare form of childhood cancer, with very little time left to live. I am going to explain this case study with the help of Biopsychosocial model, the biopsychosocial model is a model or an approach that states biological, psychological and social factors which plays a significant role in human functioning in relation with disease or illness. Firstly biological factor, we do not see any sort of biological cause in Ron such as hereditary, cancer carrier gene or history of his parents having it. Psychological factor, parents initially experienced grief and shock, but they had a hope that their son, Ron would survive from cancer, because recent medical research stated that more children with cancer were surviving longer than expected. They also wanted their son, Ron to know that he was an ordinary boy who is just like other kids who happened to deal with extraordinary circumstances. Psychology of the people around Ron and Ron itself plays a crucial role in coping with the circumstances. He and people around him have to be psychoeducated. Person with a positive attitude towards life will help the person to fight against the difficult circumstances; here in case of Ron fighting against cancer is a difficult situation. And social factors, also plays an important role. Who moved to America at the age of 14. One day when he was diagnosed the report stated positive. I am going to explain this case study with the help to Biopsychosocial model. Biological factor, there is no biological cause that has caused him HIV since his parents didn’t have it nor he carried the gene which causes the disease and got HIV by sexual intercourse. Psychological factor, he was shocked when he came to know that he was infected by HIV. He depressed as well. He felt lonely as he was scared of sharing his situation with his family and with his girlfriend because he thought they might disown him. His mental health was disturbed due to illness. He was emotionally disturbed and his self-concept was very weak. Lastly Social factors, his socioeconomic condition was not bad. He had to takecare of his two younger brothers as well.
