School Profile: University of Texas at Brownsville The University of Texas at Brownsville was established in 1973. They are a non-profit higher learning institution located in the city of Brownsville. The University of Texas at Brownsville was previously partnered with Texas Southmost College, but they become an independent university in 2011. The urban campus of 524 acres hosts around 11,000 students every year. A beautiful lake flows through the center of the growing campus. The university was built on the historical Fort Brown, which was an old Army outpost during the pioneer times, so the buildings are old and the architecture is quaint.
