The short story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe is a chilling tale of death due to a violation of personal honor. The main character, Montresor feels that he has been wronged a multitude of times by a man name Fortunado. The point-of-view of the story is 1st person meaning that it is told by Montresor himself. We get very little insight into the motive for murder. Yes he claims to be wronged in the beginning and again later on he makes a comment about having once been a part of the free masons, like Fortunatdo, but no longer was that the case.
