1. Cass Mastern’s story, though at first seemingly unnecessary and random, shares many elements and themes with Jack’s life. The story of Jack Burden and Cass Mastern are alike in that they involve the cycle of betrayal, guilt, and the burden of responsibility. Cass Mastern commits the ultimate betrayal- he sleeps with his best friend’s wife. Duncan Trice, who was “passionately and single-mindedly devoted to his wife”, commits suicide upon finding out of the affair with a “lead slug nearly the size of a man’s thumb in his chest” (Warren 4.237-243).

She becomes highly emotional, trying to find methods of staying calm during her buried state of doom, but then time again it would soon come back to her that she would not be able to handle the situation that she is currently in. Possibilities of rescue are highly low, Detectives Ben gray and the others are unable to find any clues after interviewing any possible suspects in the past 24 hours.
But then Stacey introups her and yells ``Shut up, Cassie.” (112) This shows that Cassie doesn’t know that Mr. Barnett could send her dad, mom, or even her to jail for just talking back to him and that's why Stacey tells her to shut up. Mr. Barnett says to Stacey to tell his mama to teach her what she is, which means to remind her that she is black and she is white. This shows that Cassie is not aware of the racism.

The case of Veronica Harrington is very interesting. Veronica is a fictional character on a television series called The Have and The Have Nots. This show was written, created, and directed by Tyler Perry. The show is aired on the OWN network which is considered to be primetime television. Veronica plays the character of a wealthy African American woman that is a very successful lawyer, one of the best, married to a successful and handsome well-known judge named David Harrington.
I believe in Cassie, a fictional character in The Naturals (the book that I reviewed). She is taken from everything she knows, her family, friends, and her home, to go to Washington D.C. and solve cold cases. She went because she wanted to solve her mother’s murder, but it takes a turn for the worst when the serial killer takes a personal interest in Cassie, and becomes obsessed with her. However through all of the drama, with boys and killers, and jealous girls. Cassie stays strong through the entire thing, She is kind, cares about people, and wants to help others.
Cassie’s mother was murdered and she saw the scene, and she has no idea where her father is. We can all agree that Cassie is definitely not normal. Jennifer Barnes introduces a new side of Cassie through man vs. man. Cassie shows a different side of herself when she is trying to find out who the killer is. One of the biggest times this conflict is shown is when she’s talking to the killer after she shoots Michael and hit Dean.
This is because he was getting to the white people before them. She went up to him while he was taking an order, and asked why he was not getting to them. She did not understand why people were treated this way, so she went ahead and asked. It started an argument between the two, which was Cassie asking why it was taking a long time then Mr. Barnett calling her a name and telling her to leave. What goes on in a child’s head when preparing for their first confession? Well at the age of 7 it has to be the most traumatic experience according to Jackie. It has caused me great humor to read of his thoughts on what a young man’s first confession is all about. Jackie has four major obstacles that he has faced while preparing for his confession.
